First 60 Credits for $2K

Today let’s go over the first 60 credits/first 2 years of college.  The great thing about this is once you’ve taken 16 exams, you have half of your degree.

If you want to see a degree plan for the first half of college (and this is geared toward Thomas Edison State University, one of the three major accredited online colleges that’s great for taking all your college credits and awarding a degree once you complete their requirements), click here.

There are three types of exams listed in that spreadsheet: CLEP, DSST, and TECEP.

CLEP is the most popular, and it’s probably what you’re going to be spending the most time on.  DSST is like CLEP.  I haven’t taken any yet, but I’ve heard that they are harder than CLEP in general.  DSST offers a lot of upper division courses (for the final two years of college), so that should be a good way to get some of those upper divisions cheaply.  TECEP exams were created by Thomas Edison.  I don’t know much about them, but I know a 3-credit exam for enrolled students should cost $156.  Compare that to $700-$2000 for your average college course!

Look at the right hand side of the spreadsheet, which shows which courses you should take per year based on this CLEP difficulty list. If you have a degree in mind already, this is probably not the list to use, because sometimes, different degrees have easy exams in their upper division courses.

Hopefully this information helps, and if so, I’d really appreciate it if you commented below or emailed me here.
